Letter U Week

Letter U Week
Underwear, Umbrellas, USA!

Let's face it!  Letter U is a bit of a challenge!
I always have a hard time coming up
with fun and exciting activities for letter U.
Here's a peek at our week!

The literacy center featured the book, Umbrella.
The children made pictures of themselves Under Umbrellas.
(I forgot to take a picture of this activity.)

The children LOVED drawing pictures "under and upside down."
We taped their papers underneath the art table.  This was really funny!

We talked about utensils and used various utensils for painting.

Our literacy center also featured UNDERWEAR!
The children had a blast talking about undies, underwear,
and underpants.  There was plenty of giggling, snickering,
eye rolling, and laughing going on in the Kindie house.
Who KNEW underwear could be this funny?

We read, Dinosaurs Love Underpants.

If you haven't read this book...you should!  It's great!

We had plenty of journal pages DESCRIBING underwear!
My thought was they would write about how
useful, colorful and great underwear are.
Instead most of the children described how "stinky" underwear can be!
Tee hee!

We made underwear in the art center!
Giggle, giggle!

We talked about Martin Luther King!
We did a little experiment and the children
we very aware of what was "fair" and what was "unfair".
We read books about Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King.

We made the United States flag.

We worked with our Handwriting Without Tears activities.
We love this handwriting curriculum.
It's developmentally appropriate and the children enjoy it.

The block center was very busy!

Check out this UNUSUAL collection!

Sometimes letters provide a challenge and letter U certainly
was challenging.  Not every week can be fabulous...but this week
 was better than we expected.
(We laughed a lot!  What is better than that?)

Next week we will talk about Letter B!
Get ready because Letter B is going to be off the charts!!!

Letter D Week

Dinosaurs, Dots and Dogs!
This week was delightful!
Our literacy centered featured dinosaurs!

We discussed the book, Dinosaur Roar.

We explored dinosaur bones in
sensory tubs filled with rice.

We hatched a baby dinosaur in water!  It was really cool!

We were paleontologists and we
excavated dinosaurs out of blocks of ice!

This activity was fantastic!  We had to set a timer
so everyone in the class would have a turn!

In our Art center we made several different types of dinosaurs!

We graphed our favorite dinosaurs.

We had dinosaurs for snack!

We ate dinosaur dirt too!

Our literacy center also featured dogs.

We read, Good Boy Fergus.
(This is a great book written by David Shannon.)

"Woof."

Check out these "darling dogs!"

Our math centered featured pattern block dogs.

We talked about dots.
We read, The Dot and Ten Black Dots.

We graphed candy Dots and used the Dots to make patterns.

We estimated how many Dots were in the jars.

THEN WE ATE THE DOTS!  Yummy!

We had dominoes for snack!  Wasn't this a clever idea?
(We have great families!)

This week was really fun!
We can't wait for next week!
Letter U!

Snow, Snowmen and Snowballs

We are celebrating Winter in the Kindie Class!
The weather has been unusually warm this week
so it made our snow theme even more fun!
Here's a little peek of our week.

Our Literacy center featured snowmen puppets
 and flannel board stories.
The children loved playing with the "snowballs".
We featured Snowmen at Night in our language center.

We wrote journal pages about snow.

We had snowball fights with "snowballs".

We made snowmen in the art center.  Our room looks
amazing with all our cute snowmen!

(We find some of our ideas on Pinterest and then adapt them to
our taste.  If you are not familiar with Pinterest you
really should check it out.  It's awesome!)

These snowmen were made out of torn pieces of paper!
I love these!  Don't you?

We had snowmen for snack on Fun Friday!
The coolest thing we did this week was....

make this snowman from three frozen water balloons.
He was about 20 inches tall and super fun to make!
This was a great science activity.  We had a blast!

We also discussed Penguins.

We read Tacky the Penguin.

We made these fabulous "Tacky's".

We also used pattern blocks and made penguins.

This was a great week.  It was nice to get back to our
Kindie routine after being gone for Christmas Break.

We are very excited for next week.  We will be
talking about letter D, dinosaurs and dogs.

Hugs to all of you!
